Covering Surfaces and Differential Equations

Covering Surfaces and Differential Equations
Series: Graduate Student Colloquium
Location: Math 501
Presenter: Ryan Lam

What does it mean for a (complex-valued) function, such as log(z) to be “multi-valued”? In answering this question, we review important concepts in Algebraic Topology such as coverings and deck transformations. If time allows, we hope to illustrate the power of pullbacks on the universal covering surface by discussing differential equations related to them. Supervised by Dr Douglas Haessig.
