Exploring Euler

Exploring Euler

Series: Mathematics Instruction Colloquium
Location: ENR2 S395
Presenter: Brenae Bailey

This week's colloquium will be an interactive session in which we will recreate Euler's formula for polyhedra and then explore some extensions of that formula.  I presented this activity at a Teacher's Circle last fall and again at this year's MEAD conference.  Developing Euler's formula provides a rich set of material for exploring number patterns, making conjectures, working with sequences, and seeing connections to other areas of mathematics, making it an excellent outreach activity.  We will do all that by starting with the true foundation of mathematics: playing with blocks.
