Series: Mathematics Colloquium
Location: Math 501
Presenter: Dr. Mark Ellis, Fullerton

This talk will share perspectives on the features of classrooms that support student engagement in mathematical reasoning, discourse, and sense making. Information will be provided about the Mathematics Classroom Observation Protocol for Practices (Gleason, Livers, & Zelkowski, 2015), a rubric validated for use in examining mathematics lessons from K-16 to gauge the level of student engagement. Examples will be offered of how this rubric is being used by mathematics faculty to strengthen practices that invite student engagement and increase student success.
