Ecosystem Demography and Vegetation Dynamics

Series: Quantitative Biology Colloquium
Location: Math 402
Presenter: Nicholas Lytal, Nicholas Lytal, Statistics and Argicultural & Biosystems Engineering, University of Arizona

Dr. Rosie Fisher’s research explores predictive ecology and vegetation models related to biomes in South America and eastern North America. Among her pursuits is the Ecosystem Demography (ED) Model, which has its roots in decades of previous sub-models. It combines weather changes, soil properties, and several additional factors to effectively model an ecosystem and the flow of nutrients and resources. Applied to vegetation, such models can predict the growth and development of plants, as well as their response to various natural and unnatural disturbances.

In this talk, I discuss some of Dr. Fisher’s past work on the ED model and its development into the form that exists today.
