Data Science and Statistics In The Age of Precision Medicine

Series: Tripods
Location: ENR 2 S230
Presenter: Bonnie LaFleur

This talk will summarize the roles and responsibilities of data scientists in biotechnology.  Specifically, a company that develops next-generation sequencing (NGS) assays for use in diagnostic medicine.  I will walk through the variety of quantitative problems that the scientists at HTG Molecular Diagnostics solve every day and discuss open problems that our teams are working.  I also will spend time discussing some of the many career paths open to quantitative and data scientists. I will finish the talk discussing highlights of a recent book chapter that we just submitted showing the utility of compositional data techniques in targeted NGS analyses.
