3 shorts: Industrial Data Scientist: Getting Hired; Linking Unusual Co-Incidences; Proving Future Performance

Series: Tripods
Location: ENR 2 S230
Presenter: Kevin B. Pratt, ZZAlpha LTD

17 years doing advanced analytics and machine learning in government and industry. MS Comp.Sci., J.D., Undergrad Math
First, I will talk from experience about the realities, environment and opportunities of data science across industries.
Second, I will talk about developing and implementing effective machine learning on big data to produce daily predictions in the stock market.  See, e.g. ZZAlpha.comQuandl.com
Third, I will talk about how to prove that a machine learning techniques works effectively and safely in an uncertain and changing environment.  See "Proof protocol for a machine learning technique making longitudinal predictions in dynamic contexts." Proceedings of ACM Knowledge Discovery and Datamining Conference, August 2015, Sidney, Australia.
It is very interesting to teach machines to understand behaviors that humans cannot describe.  But, how do we know they understood?"
