Manipulating Geometries for Fun and Profit

Carl Friedrich Gauss, a German mathematician who worked in the eighteenth century, is one of history's most influential mathematicians. In 1828, he proved a result so surprising and beautiful that he called it the Theorema Eregium.

Dr. Venkataramani will discuss the Theorema Eregium, which, among other things, will touch on folded paper, origami in space, leaves, flowers, and swimming sea-slugs.
