The public is invited to the 2008 Daniel Bartlett Memorial Lecture. The lecture, entitled “The Unity of Mathematics”, will be given by Barry Mazur, Gerhard Gade University Professor at Harvard, and will be held on March 25, 2008 in the Gallagher Theater of the Arizona Memorial Student Union beginning at 7:00 PM. Math Undergrad Presentations and Discussions at AMUC, Tucson, Arizona, November 2004
The UA Mathematics Department hosted the second annual Arizona Mathematics Undergraduate Conference (AMUC) in November. Undergraduate Mathematics majors from universities across Arizona and nearby states who attended this conference discussed common research interests and heard talks by students and faculty from participating institutions, which included Arizona State University, Claremont McKenna College, Mesa Community College, Northern Arizona University, the University of Arizona, the University of Texas at El Paso, Pima Community College, and New Mexico State University. Congratulations to Arizona Mathematics Professor Deborah Hughes Hallett on receiving the Deborah and Franklin Tepper Haimo Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics. This Mathematical Association of America (MAA) award honors college or university teachers who have been widely recognized as extraordinarily successful and whose teaching effectiveness has influence far beyond their own institutions. Hughes Hallett was also the Distinguished Teaching Award recipient from the MAA's Southwest Section.
