How to install a security certificate in Safari 2.0 (Mac OS X Tiger)

When you point Safari 2.0 (you must be using OS X 10.4/Tiger or higher) to a secure website with a self-signed certificate, an alert will pop up warning that the identitiy of the website cannot be verified. To avoid the alert reappearing on future visits to the same website, follow the instructions below.

  1. When the alert pops up, click on Show Certificate.
  2. Make sure that the checkbox Always trust these certificates is checked, and click on Continue.
  3. Depending on your account privileges, you may be asked to enter the Mac OS X administrator account name and password.
Note: If you need to manipulate a security certificate, or change other security settings use the Keychain Access application located in the Utilities/Applications folder.
