The mathematics major is designed to meet many different needs. Our programs allow the student to choose from several options that are each tailored to the individual's talents, interests, and career goals. A student may prepare for a variety of careers by selecting the appropriate option and minor. Students choosing a mathematics major can take advantage of the full range of mathematical resources available on campus.
The University offers three different major degrees in mathematics:
Whereas the first two degrees are awarded by the Department of Mathematics within the College of Science, the third degree is awarded by the College of Engineering; however, it is administered by the Department of Mathematics, and major advising takes place here in the Department of Mathematics.
The University offers two different minors in mathematics:
Each requires at least 18 units of coursework in mathematics. Note that while the Mathematics Minor is available to everyone, the Mathematics Teaching Minor is available only to elementary and secondary education teaching majors.
