Arizona Summer Program 2010

Undergraduate Research in Geometry

July 5-30, 2010

PROGRAM: Participating students will experience a taste of what life is like for a research mathematician. They will work in groups on projects, interact with senior mathematicians, present results in a mini-conference, possibly publish a paper, and interact with undergraduates from around the country.

TOPICS OF RESEARCH: Research will be in the general areas of geometry and differential equations. Some projects will be related to discrete geometry and others will be related to geometries on Lie groups. We expect projects will have both an experimental and a theoretical component. For more on the projects, click here.

FACULTY AND SUPERVISORS: The program will be run by the following people (click here for mini-bios):

SUPPORT: $1600 + travel and accommodations.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Apply by March 1 for full consideration. Applications will continue to be considered until spots are full.

TO APPLY: Send the following documents:

  • An application form;
  • A brief statement (1-2 pages) about your interest in the program, what you hope to contribute, and what you hope to get out if it;
  • Undergraduate transcripts of all college course work (unofficial copies are ok);
  • A separate list of mathematics and computer science courses. For each course, list the instructor, the textbook, the topics covered, and your grade;
  • Two recommendation letters;
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residency;
