Institute for
Mathematics and Education, University of Arizona
Newly established with
support from the University, the College of Science, the College of
Education, and the Udall Center for Public Policy, the Institute aims to
provide a home for disciplined collaborative work between mathematicians,
educators, and teachers. The Institute envisions to work with universities
worldwide to promote educational reform. As emphasized in the recent ICM conference:
"Mathematics can act as a vehicle for 'peace and
development, ... as a multicultural bridge ... that can be used to create
peace in the world and help towns to develop'".
