Attendance: Attendance is mandatory. If you have more than three absences you may be administratively dropped from the course. Students are responsible for all information given in class, in the text, and on the web site. Electronic devices such as cell phones, pagers, etc. must be turned off during class meeting.
Teams: Teams will be assigned by the second week of class. This will be your team for some homework assignments and for project 1. It is possible that you will not have the same team for project 2. You will be required to meet with your team at least 2-4 hours outside of class during each week.
Exams: There will be three exams. You will have two in class exams worth 100 points each and one comprehensive final exam worth 200 points. There are no make-up exams. If you miss an exam due to a verifiable emergency, you will receive a replacement score based upon the corresponding part of the final exam. A second missed exam or final exam will result in a score of zero for that exam.
Homework: Specific homework assignments will be completed and turned in as a team. These assignments should include team number, instructor’s name and the names of all team members. You need to follow instructions given on the homework assignments in detail and instructions given in class regarding homework. You should print the assignments in advance (you should print them out ASAP) and bring them to class daily, as they will be discussed in class.
Mathematical answers account for only a small portion of your overall grade. You must use correct notation and you must define variables, random variables, and events used in the problems. List Excel functions used and briefly explain how they are used. All answers must include sentences explaining answers stated on the homework assignment. Homework is due at the beginning of class on the day it is due. Late homework will not be accepted. Someone from your team should be able to turn in the homework..
Projects: There will be two team projects during the course of the semester. Each team will give a preliminary and final report on each project. The preliminary report will consist of an oral presentation and the final report will contain both an oral presentation and a written report. The oral report must be supported with PowerPoint presentations, and the written report must be computer generated. There are examples of the written reports on the Business Math web site. Please note that these are just examples and you should not model your reports exactly from these examples.
Adjustment to project grades: In the ideal group project model, all students work
together and contribute on an equal basis.
To safeguard against individuals who do not do their fair share, each
group will complete a member evaluation after each project and individual
points may be adjusted.
Academic Integrity: See Business math web page
