You are expected to always be in class and to be able to access the MBD Course Files. If you must be absent, then you are to notify me by email. You are responsible for all information provided in class, in the course files, and on the course web page. If you need help on the material you missed while absent, then please get help during the Fall and Spring Semesters from Math 115A/B tutors in the Computer Lab in La Paz [times should be listed on the Business Math Home Page] or see me during my office hours. If you are absent for a quiz, you will receive a score of 0 on it. However, the lowest individual-homework/quiz grade will be dropped at the end of the semester to take care of an absence (illness, athletics, religious day, family issue, etc).
Students who miss the first day of class will be administratively dropped unless they have made previous arrangements with me. Students with more than 3 unexcused absences during the semester MAY be administratively dropped from the course.
If you plan to be absent from class when an assignment is due, then you must have your assignment in to one of these two places by the beginning of class on the day it is due: (1) the white bucket just outside the door to my office (MTL 124 C [location]) or (2) the Math Department [location] Office (room 108 in the Math Building).
Cell phones and pagers are to be turned off during class.

If you anticipate issues related to the format or requirements of this course, please meet with your instructor to discuss ways to ensure your full participation in the course. If you determine that formal, disability-related accommodations are necessary, it is very important that you be registered with Disability Resources (621-3268; http://drc.arizona.edu) and notify your instructor of your eligibility for reasonable accommodations. You and your instructor can then plan how best to coordinate your accommodations.
Hop back.
I am available to help you during my office hours or during scheduled appointments. Since it is most difficult to explain mathematics via email or phone, I will refrain from attempting to do so -- therefore, please see me personally or make use of the tutoring opportunities listed below.
During the Fall and Spring Semesters,
tutors and times are available by contacting the Tutoring Schedule of the BusMath Homepage.
A guide to free tutoring in many subjects may be available through the ThinkTank.
Private tutoring is available for an hourly fee; you can find a list of tutors in a rack just outside the Math Office room 108.

Two midterm examinations will be given as shown on my web page. A final common examination will be given in all sections on Mon Dec 14, 8:00-10:00 p.m.. The University's Exam Regulations for final exam week
will be strictly followed, in particular those regarding students with multiple
exams on a single day. Please see http://www.registrar.arizona.edu/schedule094/exams/examrules.htm.
Complete solutions must be given to the test/exam questions with all work shown. Points will be awarded based on your use of mathematics. I am not a mind
reader and cannot grade what's in your brain; so even if you can do a problem mentally, you must write the complete solution on your paper with all steps shown and with the correct notation used. Unless otherwise stated, graphical solutions will generally not be accepted; however, graphs may be used to support your solution if the graphing method is explained. Answers must be exact, unless otherwise stated.
Any issues with test grades must be addressed within 2 class days of the tests being returned to class. If you feel that your test or exam has been graded unfairly, then I will regrade it. Since I may find mistakes that I did not originally catch, then you may end up with a lower grade.
Students must be present for the scheduled examinations.
If you are absent for a midterm exam and you have a documented excuse, then you may be eligible to substitute the final exam for the non-computer part of the missed midterm exam.
In order to be eligible to make this substitution, you must notify me before the midterm exam if possible. In
any case, I must be notified prior to the next regularly scheduled class. This substitution will be made only at the discretion of the instructor.
All electronic devices, particularly cell phones, must be turned off during all tests and exams. Silence and vibration modes are not allowed.
Hop back.
After each class, you are expected to study the slides in the appropriate PowerPoint file of your e-text and to do the exercises that relate to the information presented in class. Some of these I may formally assign, so that you will individually do them and hand in a hard copy of your assignment at the beginning of the next class. These assignments are to be done individually -- if computer work is involved, then each student must operate his own computer and must print his own work. Please click here for Ethical Standards.
I also may distribute handouts containing problems to be completed and handed in. Also, individual-assignments and dates due can be found on my web page Homework & Handouts. A hard copy of these assignments is due at the beginning of the next class unless stated otherwise. At the end of the semester, the lowest individual-homework/quiz grade will be dropped. Homework will not be accepted late nor will it be accepted via email.
If you plan to be absent from class when an assignment is due, then you must have your assignment in to one of these two places by the beginning of class on the day it is due: (1) the white bucket just outside the door to my office (MTL 124 C [location]) or (2)the Math Department [location] Office (room 108
in the Math Building
). You may have a friend take it to one of these places if you are ill, or the assignment may count as the freebie or receive a grade of 0. Also, if you are absent for a quiz or for classwork, it may count as the freebie or receive a grade of 0.
If I am ever absent from class, you are still responsible for the assignment as posted on my web page. Read the appropriate section(s), study the examples, and do the assignment.
The average of your Individual-Homework/Quiz grades counts the same as a Team-Homework Grade.
Hop back.
Team-assignments and dates due can be found on my web page Homework & Handouts. To get full credit, you must work as a team on these assignments. If, however, you fail to work with your team, then you will have to complete the assignment for a maximum of 80% of the points. The assignment is to be computer generated. Any work done in excel (charts, equations, graphs with indicators) is to be pasted into your word document with detailed explanations given -- paste only the pertinent parts of large excel files. Hand in a hard copy of your assignment with the mandatory cover sheet attached. Each substantially contributing student must sign the homework on the cover sheet. For an explanation of Substantially Contributing and Ethical Standards please click here: Ethical Standards. Credit will be given only for answers that contain supporting work.
I do not accept homework via email. I also will not grade your homework before I grade it; in other words, do not ask me to look over your homework before you turn it in to make sure it's okay. And most definitely do not send me your homework via email as an attachment for me to look over ahead of time. You are to work on your homework well in advance of the due date -- this way, you will have time to handle any computer problems and/or to come in to see me or to seek help from one of the sites listed under "Tutoring".
Late assignments will not be accepted. If you are absent from class when an assignment is due, then you must have your assignment in to one of these two places by the beginning of class on the day it is due: (1) the white bucket just outside the door to my office (MTL 124 C [location]) or (2) the Math Department Office (room 108 in the Math Building [location]
). You may have a friend take it to one of these places if you are ill. No grade from these major assignments will be dropped.
Note about teams: I reserve the right to change the members of a team at any time if I deem it necessary. If you are not contributing to your team, you may find youself as a team of 1. Team members may vote a poorly contributing member off the team, after meeting with me first.
Hop back.
Teams consisting of five (possibly four) students each will be formed to complete two team projects. Each team will give both preliminary and final reports on the projects. Preliminary reports will be in oral form, and final reports will
be in both oral and written forms. The oral reports must be supported with Power Point presentations that are free of live links. Each team member must participate equally, and each team member is expected to dress and act professionally. The written reports are to be computer generated and self-contained (i.e. one file) and free of spelling and grammatical errors. A CD or a flash drive with one Excel file is to be submitted with your written report at the beginning of class on the due date. Reports are not accepted via email. Your written report must be submitted to www.turnitin.com by 11:59 pm on the same day that you hand it in to me. Failure to give the oral report or to submit the written report or the e-file on time will result in the loss of at least 15 points per day or per fraction of a day.
If you fail to work with your team, then you will be able to acquire only 80% of the points involved.
To get more information about what is required for the projects, read the handouts that can be found here.
Final note about teams: I reserve the right to change the members of a team at any time if I deem it necessary. If you are not contributing to your team, you may find youself as a team of 1.
Hop back.
Any issues with grades must be addressed within one class day of the papers being returned to the class. You will be given a printout of your grades at midsemester and on the last day of class. Corrections on these printouts are to be made within two calendar days of their being distributed to the class.
Points are earned according to the following:
100 points --- Midterm Exam 1
150 points --- Project 1
100 points --- Midterm Exam 2
150 points --- Project 2
100 points --- Average of Team-Homework Assignments (including Individual-Homework/Quiz Average)
200 points --- Final Exam
800 points --- Total
If you earn at least 55% of the total points for individual work (Midterm Exams and Final Exam) and at least 55% of the total points for team work, then
your course grade will be based upon the fraction of the total possible points that you earn. The following grading scale will be used:
A: 90% of total points
B: 80% of total points
C: 70% of total points
D: 60% of total points
Otherwise, you will receive a failing grade for the course. For course grade purposes, individual work is defined to include only the 2 midterm tests and the final exam.
Hop back.
Students are expected to be familiar with and abide by the University of Arizona's Code of Academic Integrity: "Integrity is expected of every student in all academic work. The guiding principle of academic integrity is that a student's submitted work must be the student's own." The code will be strictly enforced, and any student found to be in violation will be appropriately sanctioned.
Each item (Individual-Homework, Team-Homework, Quiz, Test, Report, Exam, etc) you hand in to me must be original. In particular and unless I state otherwise, you may not build onto an existing file and call it your own work.

Withdrawing and Incompletes:
Sep 18 is the deadline to drop a class using WebReg; the class will not appear on your transcript.
Students withdrawing between Sep 18 and Oct 16 will receive the grade "W" if they are passing at the time. Students will be considered to be passing at the time of withdrawal if they have scored at least 60% on the work required by that time.
After Oct 16, withdrawal from class requires permission from both the Instructor and the Dean on a Change of Schedule Form. By policy, permission from the Dean to make a registration change requires an extraordinary reason.
The grade of I may be awarded if ALL the following conditions are met:
The student has completed all but a small portion of the required work.
The student has scored at least 60% on the work completed.
The student has a valid reason for not completing the course on time.
The student agrees to make up the material in a short period of time.
The student asks for the incomplete before dead day.
