Math 124 Preliminary Exam Information
Fall 2009
In order to be success in Calculus you must be able to perform the computations in addition to understanding and applying the concepts.
Students who continue to make algebraic and trigonometric errors will have difficulty solving problems and as a result will lower their grade.
One way to address this issue is to give a preliminary exam covering the common algebraic errors that students make in Calculus I.
If you would like to prepare for this 50 point preliminary exam that will be given in your Calculus I class, we recommend an on-line review at
http://prep.math.lsa.umich.edu/pmc . This site contains a review of precalculus topics relevant to our courses. The preliminary exam will only test the algebraic skills covered in sections 1-7, with an emphasis on common mistakes made when simplifying expressions and solving equations. The remaining topics in the review will be needed throughout the course.
