In order to be success in Calculus you must be able to perform the computations in addition to understanding and applying the concepts. Students who continue to make algebraic and trigonometric errors will have difficulty solving problems and as a result will lower their grade. One way to address this issue is to give a preliminary exam covering the common algebraic errors that students make in Calculus I.
