First Semester Calculus

MATH 122B

Math 122B is a 4-unit course that will run from Tuesday, February 6th through the end of the semester.

Students may opt to join a 1-unit supplemental instructions course, Math 196M, to practice the problem solving skills required of Calculus I.

COURSE OBJECTIVES AND LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Math 122B is an introduction to first-semester calculus for engineering, science and math students, with an emphasis on understanding, problem solving, and modeling. Upon completion of the course, the student will:

TEXTBOOK

Math 122A covers Chapter 1 and Math 122B covers Chapters 2-6 and section 7.1 of Calculus, Single Variable; 6th edition; Hughes-Hallett, et al.; Wiley.

CALCULATORS

A graphing calculator is required for Math 122B. We recommend any model in the TI-83 or TI-84 series. Models that can perform symbolic calculations (also known as CAS) are NOT allowed on exams and quizzes. CAS models include (but are not limited to) the TI-89,TI NSpire CAS, HP 50g, and Casio Classpad 330. For more information about models, see http://math.arizona.edu/academics/calculators . Students are not allowed to share calculators during exams and quizzes. 


HOMEWORK

Math 122B uses a computer grading program called WebAssign for textbook assignments. Logging into WebAssign can only be done through the WebAssign Login link in your Math 122B D2L site.

COMMON FINAL EXAM INFORMATION

A common comprehensive final exam will be given for all sections of Math 122B on Tuesday, May 7th, 2024 from 1:00pm - 3:00pm.
