Bio: Hector completed his doctoral work in Mathematics Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago. His current research interests include: issues related to equity, language, and culture; teaching and learning of mathematics especially from an activity theory perspective; mathematical discourse; and informal mathematical learning environments. His current CEMELA work focuses on improving the mathematics education of Latino elementary school students through joint collaborations among parents, students, teachers, and university partners involved in an after school mathematics club.
