Textbook: Required: Applied
Combinatorics (5th edition), by Alan Tucker., published by John Wiley &
Sons.
Reccomended, but certainly not required: (1) Stanley, Enumerative
Combinatorics Volumes I and II. (2) Brualdi, Introductory Combinatorics.
Course Syllabus.
Here's a pdf version, if
you're in to that kind of thing.
The syllabus will include information about grading
policies, exam schedules and policies, etc. You
should definitely read it.
Here's an approximate schedule of
what we'll be doing this semester. Emphasis on the "approximate".
Homework:
- Homework will be posted here.
- Project 1 problems will be posted
here.
- Second project problems.
- There will be weekly homework assigned, both problems
from the textbook (Tucker) and problems I'll give you myself, which will
be posted here on this webpage. They will
be due on Fridays in class. Late homeworks will be accepted for half
credit.
- Also, there will be two projects this semester, which will take the
form
of a series of problems that the class will present solutions to on
Fridays, and a written report (possibly in teams) on each project. More
details will be discussed in class.
- Also, the homework will eventually be required to be done in TeX or
LaTeX.
For the first half of the semester, this will be optional, but highly
reccomended. Here
and here
are a couple of good links. Here is a homework
template in LaTeX form, and here is what it
looks like after being compiled.
