Undergraduate Math Course Honors Sections
The Mathematics Department offers
special honors sections in some of
its courses. It is not required for you to be a math major
or minor. We are looking for highly motivated students with
strong mathematical backgrounds.
Honors MATH 115A & 115B:
You must be accepted to the UA Honors College.
To register for honors MATH 115A or honors MATH 115B, please contact
Dave Wietecha in the Eller College,
wietecha@eller.arizona.edu,
520-621-2505.
All others honors sections:
Acceptance to the UA Honors College is
not a requirement.
Registration for each honors section is blocked
until the Mathematics Department can verify student
eligibility. There are two ways to become eligible:
- By nomination:
Each semester, instructors of certain math
courses are asked by the Mathematics Department
to nominate unusually outstanding students
for invitation to the honors section of certain math courses.
Your instructor and/or the Mathematics Department will inform you
if you are nominated, and will
provide you with a form to bring to the
Academic
Office to complete your registration.
- By placement:
Since there is no opportunity for instructors to nominate students into
their very first UA MATH course, for certain courses, as described in the
table below, other criteria can be used to determine
honors eligibility. Generally speaking, students are informed of their eligibility
during New Student Orientation. If you would like to register for an honors
section, have not yet taken a UA MATH course, and meet the requirements
given below, please
contact
the Math Placement Coordinator to discuss your options and
complete your registration.
About MATH 250A:
This special course is designed solely for incoming
students with an AP Calculus AB score of at least 4. No
continuing UA students are nominated for this particular honors course.
