The prerequisite for this book is a course in single variable calculus, from either a traditional or a reform approach.
Linear algebra and multivariable calculus are not required. Sections 6.2 and 9.5 use elementary properties of 2 by 2 matrices. The Appendix contains a brief introduction to matrices for students lacking this background.
This book is appropriate for any major, although many of the applications are from engineering and the sciences (physical, biological, and social).
