Problem sets: In addition to WebAssign homeworks, I will assign 5 problems every week. As a rule, they will be assigned on Wednesdays, and they are due the following Wednesday. Their solutions must include detailed explanations. Answers with no explanations will not be counted.

Exams: Four midsemester tests given during class periods on September 18, October 14, November 8, and December 6, plus a two-hour final. The final exam will take place on Monday, December 16, from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. . All electronic devices (cell phones included) must be turned off during all exams. Calculators will not be allowed on the first and the second midsemester tests. They will be allowed on other exams.

Grading: The WebAssign homeworks and written homeworks are worth 50 points each, the midsemester tests are worth 100 points each, and the final exam is worth 200 points. This gives the total of 700 points. Grades will be not lower than in the following table:
A: 595--700 points,
B: 525--594 points,
C: 455--524 points,
D: 385--454 points,
E: 0--384 points.

Grade "I": The grade of "I" can be awarded only in an exceptional case to a student who has a valid reason for not completing the course in time, who has not completed a small portion of the course, and who has shown a passing performance in class. A request for the grade of "I" should be made before the final exam starts.
