Calculators: A graphics calculator is an important tool that will be used in this course. Calculator programs can be found at http://math.arizona.edu/~krawczyk/calcul.html.

Problem sets: Homework problems will be assigned on Thursdays, and they are due the following Thursday. Solutions of the problems must include detailed explanations. Answers with no explanations will not be counted.

Exams: Three midsemester tests given during class periods on September 15, October 22, and December 3 plus a two-hour final. The final exam will take place on Monday, December 14, from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m..

Grading: The homeworks and the midsemester tests are worth 100 points each; the final exam is worth 200 points. This gives the total of 600 points. Grades will be not lower than in the following table:
A: 510--600 points,
B: 450--509 points,
C: 390--449 points,
D: 330--389 points,
E: 0--329 points.

Grades "W" and "I": The grade "W" will be awarded to any student who requests this grade before or on October 16. The grade of "I" can be awarded only in an exceptional case to a student who has a valid reason for not completing the course in time, who has not completed a small portion of the course, and who has shown a passing performance in class. A request for the grade of "I" should be made before the final exam starts.
