Great Expectations- Probabilities in Action!
Participants played a round of Wheel of Fortune and used the experience to discuss which letters of the alphabet are used most often. This lead to a discussion of expected values for contexts where a fixed, simple, algebraic function cannot be written.
Some of the AIMS Standards addressed include:
2.2.1 Name the possible outcomes for a probability experiment.
2.2.2 Express the probabilities of a single outcome as a fraction, decimal, and percent.
2.3.3 Predict the outcome of a probability experiment.
2.3.4 Record the data from performing a probability experiment.
2.3.7 Compare the results of two repetitions of the same probability experiment.
