Modeling a phenotypic oscillation in a population of fish Sheree LeVarge UA |

ABSTRACT Frequency-dependent selection occurs when the fitness of a genotype depends on the frequency of that genotype within a population. In 1993, Michio Hori reported that a form of frequencydependent selection operates in a population of cichlid fish (Perissodus microlepis). Interestingly, Hori discovered that this type of selection gave rise to a phenotypic oscillation. In this talk, I will introduce frequency-dependent selection and Hori’s study of P. microlepis. Based on his findings, I will present a discrete-time model that predicts this oscillation. |
