A Monotone, Multi-Particle Contact Process for Invasive Species

ABSTRACT

The contact process has been used for the purpose of studying infectious diseases and invasive species. The Propp and Wilson algorithm is a MCMC which gives a way of sampling exactly from the stationary distribution of a monotone process. The contact process loses its monotonicity when the maximum particle number is increased. In order to use the P-W algorithm to study the stationary distribution of an invasion, the multi-particle contact process must be modified into a new monotone version. Then we can sample exactly from the stationary distribution and know for sure whether or not the invasion has occurred and get a picture of the path to invasion equilibrium.
