Test 4 Study Guide

Test 4 covers Sections 5.5, 5.6, 8.1, and 8.2.  Note that sections 5.5 and 5.6 require a strong grasp on the material in sections 5.1 through 5.4; please review these sections.

You will be given some formulas on the test.  Click here for a list of those formulas as they will be presented on the test.

The test will be 90% multiple choice. Problems 150-209 on pages 197 - 206 in your workbook are good review problems for this test.  Solutions can be found at: http://math.arizona.edu/~algebra  I highly recommend working through problems 100 to 142 in the Final Exam Study Guide to prepare for this test.

• Representing sequences as lists, general term, recursively, graphically
• Arithmetic Sequences: how to recognize, common difference, f(n)=dn+c, similar to linear functions
• Geometric Sequences: how to recognize, common ratio, f(n)=cr^(n-1), similar to exponential functions

• Definition of Series, Term, Infinite vs. Finite, when does a series have a sum?  When is it unbounded?
