In reference to the comments above about grading homework in Math 113: it's tough to grade hw assignments two to three times a week for 30 plus students, especially in the first few years of graduate school when you're expected to bust your rear end on your own problem sets and research. For this reason, one has to pick and choose only a handful of problems to grade (a couple standard and a couple of challenging problems). Even so, I took the comment to heart, and I now favor having weekly quizzes consisting of two or three vocabulary questions along with two or three homework type problems.
