Biomathematics Seminar

Fall 1999

Overview. For the fall semester of 1999, the Biomathematics Seminar will consist of three minicourses. The minicourse cycle will be a preparatory lecture given by the seminar course participants, two lectures given by outside experts, and a follow-up discussion.

The topics are regulation of blood flow, molecular motors, and protein structure. The guest presenters to the seminar will be four University of Arizona Faculty.

Each participant in the seminar will choose one of the three minicourse topics as a focus topic. The ``teams'' formed by this choice will coordinate with me the preparatory reading, the presentation of the introductory lecture, the follow-up discussion, and prepare a research prospectus.

Day to Day Operations. The course meets for lecture each Tuesday from 3:45 to 5:30 in Economics 200.

If you need to contact me, write me electronically at jwatkins@math.arizona.edu, call me at 621-5245, or drop by my office Math 520. My office hours are 12 to 1 on Mondays and 1 to 3 on Wednesdays in Math 226.

Evaluation of Students. We will evaluate your work via class participation, presentations and your contributions to the research prospectus.

Best wishes to you for a good semester in this course and in all your other activities.
