NOTE 1: Be sure to read Homework Format, Homework Writing Policy, and Explanations Expected BEFORE writing up your solutions to be turned in.
NOTE 2: When two or more Lessons are to be turned in on the same
day, please staple the Lessons separately and turn them in separately.
(This is Lesson 21a; if another Lesson is due the same day as this
Lesson is due, staple the two Lessons separately and turn them in
separately.)
Due Wednesday, October 14.
- Sect. 4.6:
- Be sure to note that there are many more exercises suggested in the suggested homework posted online.
Exercise 44*.
* For part (a) of Exercise 44, you do NOT have to "determine the excluded regions" and you do NOT have to "specify your results using a sketch similar to Figure 16(a)". Do all the other parts of the exercises as requested.
For your convenience, the complete instructions are summarized below, with comments in brackets. Papers which ignore these instructions will not be graded:
(a) Determine the x- and y- intercepts. [As usual, it should be clear how you get your answesr and your answers should be labeled appropriately. Don't just write down some numbers without explanation.]
(b) Describe the behavior of the function at each x- intercept. Specify your results using a sketch similar to the left-hand portion of Figure 20. [This will require you to do some approximate calculations near the intercepts, as is done in the book and was done in class.]
(c) Graph the function. [Make sure the behavior of the function is clear from your graph. Graphs which are too small to show the appropriate behavior will not receive credit. Of course, your graph should be consistent with your answers to (a) and (b).]
NOTE 1: Be sure to read Homework Format, Homework Writing Policy, and Explanations Expected BEFORE writing up your solutions to be turned in.
NOTE: As stated on the Course Home Page, all due dates are tentative. Assignments, or parts of assignments, may be postponed to a later date.
