Lesson 22a.

NOTE 1: Be sure to read Homework Format, Homework Writing Policy, and Explanations Expected BEFORE writing up your solutions to be turned in.

NOTE 2: When two or more Lessons are to be turned in on the same day, please staple the Lessons separately and turn them in separately.
(This is Lesson 22a; if another Lesson is due the same day as this Lesson is due, staple the two Lessons separately and turn them in separately.)

Due Wednesday, October 14.

Sect. 4.4-4.5:
A power station is on one side of a river that has a width  W  (in miles), and a factory is a distance  D  (in miles) downstream on the other side. It costs  Co  per mile to run power lines overland and  Cu  per mile to run them underwater.

A transmission line is to be built from the power station under water to some point on the opposite side of the river, and then on land along the side of the river to the factory. Find a formula for the total cost of the transmission line in terms of one variable.
Please be sure that it is clear what the problem you're solving is and what you're doing. See Homework Format.

NOTE 1: Be sure to read Homework Format, Homework Writing Policy, and Explanations Expected BEFORE writing up your solutions to be turned in.

As stated on the Course Home Page, all due dates are tentative. Assignments, or parts of assignments, may be postponed to a later date.
