Lesson 30.

NOTE 1: Be sure to read  Homework Format  and Homework Writing Policy BEFORE writing up your solutions to be turned in.

Due Monday, March 10

PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW BEFORE DOING THE PROBLEMS!
Sect. 7:
7.24*,  7.25**

*  Do Exercise 7.24 for general relations,  rather than just for functions, using the definition of composition given in class  (which is essentially the same as the definition of composition of functions given in the textbook near the bottom of page 67).  Note that the sets  A,   B,   C,  and  D  mentioned in the textbook's definition are irrelevant in this context and don't have to be mentioned.

** Read the instructions for 7.25  in the textbook and show that you know how to prove that a relation is a function from a set  A  to a set  C; ***  since you will be dealing with relations, you will be using ordered pairs.

*** You need to prove that the relation
  • is a function
  • from  A
  • to  C.  [Corrected Mar 9, 6 PM.]
For more discussion of relevant ideas, see the Notes on Functions under Announcements on the course home page.
PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS ABOVE BEFORE DOING THE PROBLEMS!
