Lesson 37.

NOTE: Be sure to read  Homework Format  and Homework Writing Policy BEFORE writing up your solutions to be turned in.

Lesson 37a.
Due Wednesday, March 26

Sect. 7:
7.32*
* For 7.32, do in one direction only (see a later lesson for the other direction), as follows:  Prove that IF there is left or right inverse, THEN the function is injective or surjective, respectively. Of course, use the standard approach for proving injective and surjective.

Lesson 37b.
Due Friday, March 28

Sect. 7:
7.8**,
** For 7.8:  First, give a careful definition of a circle. Begin by giving the definition of a
“circle with center  (ab)  and radius  r ”,
for given real numbers  ab,  and  r.
Then define a circle in general as a set  C  for which there exists numbers  ...  such that  ... .  To do Ex. 7.8, you may assume that the area of a circle of radius  r  is given by the usual formula. Of course, you should base your proofs in 7.8 on what you have defined a circle to be.
