NOTE 1: Be sure to read Homework Format and Homework Writing Policy BEFORE writing up your solutions to be turned in.
NOTE 2: When two or more Lessons are to be turned in on the same day, please staple the Lessons separately and turn them in separately.
Due Wednesday, July 9
- Writing (and reading; read through ALL of the following):
- In Lesson 27, you were asked, in Problem 1 (see the pdf documenmt Sums and Duration), to prove a certain formula, and then, in Problem 2, to check the formula for two special cases, n = 1 and n = 2.
Being able to check your work by verifying special cases is an important mathematical tool, and it is essential that you understand what this means.
Also, it is very seldom that a good answer to a mathematical problem consists merely of writing down formulas, with no words -- no indication of what you are doing, AND no indication of why you are doing it, AND no indication of what the significance of your answer is. At least one of these three elements should be present in almost all solutions, and frequently all of these elements should be present. Be sure to read Homework Format and Homework Writing Policy BEFORE writing up your solutions to be turned in.
→ For this Lesson (Lesson 27a), redo Problem 2 in the original Lesson 27. NOTE: If you have already received full credit for Problem 2 in Lesson 27, you do not have to redo it; you have already received 100 out of 100 points for this part of Lesson 27a.
- In Problem 5 of Lesson 27, you were asked to describe how the Principle of Mathematical Induction works. This Principle is an important mathematical tool, and it is important that you understand what it says and what you are doing when you use it.
→ For this Lesson (Lesson 27a), redo Problem 5 in the original Lesson 27. NOTE: If you have already received full credit for Problem 5 in Lesson 27, you do not have to redo it; you have already received 50 out of 50 points for this part of Lesson 27a.
