Martin Leslie | MATH110 Section 2 Spring '08

Course Information

Class Policy

The Course Policy document available from http://math.arizona.edu/~algebra/math110.html applies in full to this section. In particular, daily attendance is expected. If you miss class it is your responsibility to make sure that you get a copy of the notes and any announcements made.

Homework & Quiz Policy

Homework

Homework will be assigned approximately twice a week. The problems to complete will be assigned in class and on the course website at least two class periods before the homework is due.

Homework will be collected at the beginning of class. Late homework will NOT be accepted for any reason. If you know you will miss a class arrange with me to submit homework early. To make up for unforeseeable absences the bottom four homework or quiz grades will be dropped from the grade calculation at the end of semester.

Selected questions from each homework will be graded for correctness and quality of mathematical explanation. Problems to be graded will be chosen before grading begins. NO credit will be given for answers without supporting working - if you have a nice way of doing a problem without writing anything down then write me a sentence explaining it.

Specific Homework Procedures

Discussion of homework with other students is encouraged. However you must write up your own own solutions independently.

Quizzes

Quizzes will also be given, approximately every two weeks. These will be announced at least a week before they occur and will be taken in the last ten minutes of class. Missed quizzes CANNOT be made up. As discussed above, the policy of dropping the lowest four homework/quiz scores will prevent any damage to your grade because of unforeseen absences.

Grading

I will endeavour to mark homework and quizzes and return them to you in a timely manner. If you have a question about grading please submit your assignment to me in class with a note attached explaining your concern within a week of the assignment being returned.

Each homework and quiz will be marked out of 10. At the end of semester the lowest four homework or quiz grades will be dropped, all scores added up and the total converted to a score out of 150. For example if there are 27 homework assignments and 7 quizzes then the top 30 scores will be added up to get a score of 300 which will be halved to calculate the final homework/quiz score out of 150.

There will be no 'curving' or 'extra credit'.
