37 (Baker No. 485) The Archytas construction of cube roots

Archytas (ca. 400 B. C.) was a Pythagorean philosopher, mathematicians, general, and statesman. He was a citizen of Tarentum. This model shows his construction of cube roots. The distance between the vertex of the cone and the point where the cone, cylinder, and torus meet is the cube root of the chord where the cone cuts the base of the cylinder.
