Math Sense
UNVR 397A

Math Sense is part of the Teaching Teams Program, an initiative that recruits and trains teaching teams that consist of instructors, graduate teaching assistants, and preceptors (peer tutors) to assist in large lecture courses. Specifically, Math Sense is a course designed to train preceptors to better assist their peers with mathematics in their courses. Math Sense was developed by postdocs and continues to be adapted by two to three postdocs per semester whose responsibility it is to teach the course and to attend regular meetings with representatives from the Teaching Teams Program as a whole. The main goals of Math Sense are to make students aware of different learning styles, to familiarize them with problems that students encounter in learning math, and to give them strategies for dealing with these problems. Therefore, participating postdocs spend a great deal of time developing or adapting materials for class discussions and activities aimed at these goals.
