Mamaev Kurgan
The memorial complex “Mamaev Kurgan” was build
in memory of the Battle for Stalingrad (now
Volgograd), very important and certainly the fiercest battle
in World War II. Here are some photos of it.

About the page
While being in Israel, Weizmann
Institute of Science, Misha Stepanov (MS)
wanted to show the photos of the Motherland statue
to Daniel Volk, a guy from Germany he worked
on clustering with. He was unpleasantly surprized, how few
and of which quality the photos were in the net.
Later while being at Princeton,
Institute for Advanced Study, MS
and Yura Bakhtin (YB),
who was born in Volgograd, discussed this point, and YB also
made internet search for Mamaev Kurgan photos, and he found
pretty the same (the situation is improved
from that time). Then MS and YB decided to make some
photos of the memorial, one of the wonders
of the world, and put them to the net.
