Overview
Island Draw and Paint are two graphics software packages made by a company called Island. They run on the UNIX operating system, but are quite similar in style and ease of use to the drawing and painting programs that run on the Mac system. A primary use of this software is to cosmetically enhance graphs (made with mathematical packages) into publication-quality figures. Island Draw can read postscript files and Island Paint can read encapsulated postscript files.
Path: Add /usr/scratch/island/bin/ to your PATH setting. (NOTE: This path is temporary and only valid until May 31, 1998, since this is a demo version only.)
Other: Set the system environment variable IOFFICE to /usr/scratch/island.
Type IslandDraw at the system prompt.
To Run Island Paint
Type IslandPaint at the system prompt.

Helpful Hints
Memory considerations:
Figures saved in Island Draw format use considerably less memory than postscript files.
Encapsulated Postscript:
For inclusion into of a figure into a LaTeX file, save in epsi format.
Island Paint reads files in epsf format.
Shift Key:
This key is very powerful. It enables one to make perfectly straight horizontal and vertical lines, and also to select several oblejcts. In either case, one holds the shift key down while performing the line making or selecting.
Useful Resources
Greek Letters:
For a style of Greek letters alternative to those in Island Draw grab greek.tar.gz which unpacks into a bunch of *.id files.
