Overview
As part of the VIGRE program, The Department of Mathematics
and the Program in Applied Mathematics will have up to four
post-doctoral fellows in residence.
These positions will be suitable for recent PhDs who plan careers
at research universities and whose mathematical interests intersect
significantly with those of current faculty members. In addition to
an exciting research environment, VIGRE postdocs will have opportunities
to participate in innovative teaching initiatives at all levels, in
and outside of the classroom.
Features
The main features of the Arizona VIGRE post-doc positions are:
- Up to three years generous academic year support, and summer support for two summers
- $7,500 for equipment, travel, and operations
- Opportunities to develop inter-disciplinary research interfaces with departments outside the Mathematics Department and the Applied Mathematics Program
- A teaching load of one course per semester, with the possibility of teaching at all levels (lower division, upper division, and graduate)
- Opportunities to participate in outreach activities
- Opportunity to lead a "Research Tutorial Group" introducing first-year graduate students to research in mathematics and applied mathematics
- Faculty mentors for both research and teaching
- The possibility of a leave of absence to pursue an internship at a national laboratory or in industry, or a position at a research institute
Eligibility
VIGRE stipend recipients must be US citizens, nationals, or permanent
residents. Women and members of under-represented groups are encouraged to
apply.
