Daniel J. O'Connor is a former contract helicopter pilot for flight operations at Grand Canyon National Park. During the Vietnam Conflict, he served as a UH-1 "Huey" medevac pilot with the 571st Medical Detachment based in DaNang and Phu Bai. Dan holds a bachelors degree in economics from the University of Massachusetts and currently works as an analyst for a Massachusetts electric utility. In 1985, Dan proposed the idea of using verbal cues to rate the initial POA of search segments by their relative importance and letting the computer do the math. This evolved into the "O'Connor Method," a user friendly way of creating a Mattson Consensus, which was integrated into later versions of the CASIE program. Dan has lectured and held computer workshops on the use of CASIE at SAR conferences in Massachusetts and Vermont. He considers himself the "East Coast Sales Rep" for the free CASIE software.
In addition to his interest in SAR theory, Dan is the author of "Airplanes & Income Tax," a workbook which
helps prospective owners plan the purchase of an aircraft. Rated as a Commercial Pilot in both helicopters
and airplanes, Dan is certified as an Advanced Ground Instructor by the FAA and has received the professional
designation of Chartered Mutual Fund Counselor (CMFC) from the College For Financial Planning.
