Mathematics Related to the Triangle Sketch

One method for investigating relationships between triangle side lengths and areas is to hold one side constant and change the other two. In the triangle sketch, you can hold side AB constant by dragging point C on the segment at the top of the sketch. The lengths of sides BC and CA change, but their sum remains the constant. The path of point C is an ellipse and the area of triangle ABC is maximized when BC and CA are equal.
