The Mathematics of CAT Scans
Mathematical Magic

There is a certain magic in the way the reconstruction occurs. This "magic" is the Central Slice Theorem. The theorem demonstrates that a Fourier Transform (FT) of a projection is the same as the F T of the three-dimensional object itself. Through a process known as Inverse Fourier Transform, the object can be reconstructed based on the FT of the projection. This beautiful connection between two seemingly unrelated ideas is indeed magical.
