Local information

Airports

Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX) is about 100 miles from Tucson. Although we recommend flying into Tucson directly, there is a shuttle from Phoenix to Tucson: Arizona Shuttle .

Tucson International Airport (TUS) is 10 miles south of Tucson.

Sun Tran: There are regular buses which run from TUS into downtown Tucson. The fare is $1.50. Buses leave the airport for downtown every half-hour. If you exit at University Blvd., then the Sheraton is about a 10 to 15 minute walk to the East. We do not recommend the buses after dark.

Arizona Stagecoach: This service is $17 per person. There is a counter at the airport next to baggage claim. One can also take a taxi, and the fare (to the Sheraton) is $40 or less.

Accommodations

Most people will be staying at the Sheraton. We will be making the hotel reservations.

University of Arizona Campus

Here is an interactive map of campus. Several restaurants can be found on University Avenue which is immediately West of campus. There is also a food court in the Student Union.

Lecture Room

The lectures will be taking place in the Manuel Pacheco Integrated Learning Center, or briefly the Pacheco ILC . You can find the ILC building on the map above. We will be in Room 140 which is one floor below street level.

Visit to the Desert Museum

This year we will go on an outing to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum . Interested participants must sign up for this visit on the first day of the workshop. Participants will have to pay the entrance fee, but we should qualify for the group rate.
