3.4.0.3 Success of the Course: the Mathematics Learned.

So far, ten weeks into the semester, the pilot course has proved very successful. Homework papers have been mathematically correct and well-presented. When graded with the same or higher standards than used in the corresponding traditional course, Finite Mathematics, the class is averaging much higher on the homework (over 80%). One midterm test has been given; despite the small number of traditional exercises in the new course, Business Mathematics I students did slightly better than do Finite Mathematics students on the standard type of questions. The class mean was approximately 75%.

The team reports on the first main project were excellent. Six out of seven groups did almost all of the mathematics correctly, and justified their decisions properly. Oral presentations using Power Point were well done. The mean project score was close to 90%.
