Students in other PhD programs may earn a PhD minor in Mathematics by completing 12 units of approved graduate course work in mathematics. The instructor(s) of the courses must indicate (by signing a form online or available in the Mathematics Graduate Office) that the student's performance in their course merits a PhD minor. In cases where suitable course work was carried out elsewhere or where the instructor cannot or will not sign the form, an examination set by the PhD minor advisor may be substituted for the instructor's statement.
Students should note that "dual numbered" courses often have additional requirements for graduate students and meeting those requiremennts may be necessary to obtain the approval of the instructor for a course to be eligible for the PhD minor.
Students are strongly encouraged to consult with the PhD minor advisor about the suitability of their course work for the minor and for their careers.
The PhD minor advisor for students in the College of Education is currently Professor Marta Civil. For all other students, the PhD minor advisor is currently Professor William Faris.
