What to Do About Students’ Mental Health?

This session will be facilitated by Hector Reyes, LCSW from Counseling and Psych Services (CAPS) to discuss how we, as instructors, can appropriately respond to students’ increasing mental health needs. A recent national survey of more than 600 colleges and universities found that, between 2013 and 2023, there have been significant increases in rates of suicidal ideation (8% to 14%), depressive symptoms (22% to 41%), and anxiety symptoms (17% to 36%) among undergraduate students (Healthy Minds Network, 2024). The goal of this session is to learn about resources on how to be responsive to students while also managing our own mental health needs. We will dedicate time during the session for Q&A.
