Title: Quantum entanglement: the two spin 1/2 example

Abstract: This is an expository talk on quantum mechanics, focusing on  the most elementary quantum systems.  The topics are: (1) The framework of quantum mechanics; (2) The example of a  spin 1/2 system; (3) The example of atwo spin 1/2 system with possible entanglement; (4) An entanglement example due to Lucien Hardy: Events associated withdifferent spin directions cannot be combined to form a coherent set of events. This suggests that in the absence of an interaction that prefers particular directions, there are no spin variables.

No background in quantum mechanics is assumed. The mathematics is elementary linear algebra.
