Facilitating Effective Group Work
An article in a recent Chronicle of Higher Education entitled "Preventing Ghosting, Domination, and Other Group-work Issues" (available here at https://www.chronicle.com/newsletter/teaching/2025-01-23) provides the motivation for this week's Mathematics Instruction Colloquium. "Group work is an important part of a college education. But it can be hard to get right, and many students are primed to dislike it." The Honors section of Math 263 was developed to include a group project consisting of between 2 and 4 students. And the students always laugh when I tell them that my goal it to make it so that this meme doesn't apply:
