The annual Duncan Buell Everything is Mathematics Lecture Series is back! One of the few, if not the only endowed lecture at the University of Arizona, EIM gives the Tucson community a window into the mathematical research our UA faculty do here in Tucson. The lecture is made possible in part by the generous endowment by UofA mathematics alumnus Duncan Buell.

This year, join us on October 24th as Professor Bryden Cais discusses the mathematics of search and rescue with his lecture titled “How to Save Lives with Statistics”. More details here. Cash bar and light food provided. As a public facing lecture series, it is important that we as a department make sure our audience, the general public, are able to follow along completely. Part of our mission is to spread the accessibility of math while also stressing the fundamental role that math places in our everyday lives. Therefore, the talk is audience proofed beforehand, allowing folks in the department to give feedback before the day of the lecture.

Bryden has a track record of high reviews from students and colleagues. “This instructor is probably one of the best I’ve had,” notes one student, “He’s kind, clear, explains everything well, and knows how to get the attention of the class. I wish I could have him as a teacher again soon.”

Subrscribe to our newsletter to read a full history and debrief on the lecture.

This year’s venue has limited space so please RSVP below.

It’s this support that allows UArizona Mathematics to drive potential and grow opportunity.
