Facilitating Effective Group Work

An article in a recent Chronicle of Higher Education entitled "Preventing Ghosting, Domination, and Other Group-work Issues" (available here at  https://www.chronicle.com/newsletter/teaching/2025-01-23) provides the motivation for this week's Mathematics Instruction Colloquium.  "Group work is an important part of a college education. But it can be hard to get right, and many students are primed to dislike it."  The Honors section of Math 263 was developed to include a group project consisting of between 2 and 4 students.  And the students always laugh when I tell them that my goal it to make it so that this meme doesn't apply:

A meme about group work: When I die, I want the people I did group project with to lower me into my grave so they can let me down one last time

So, join us in discussing some ideas to more directly integrate exercises that will (hopefully) improve the collaborative experience.
