SCHOLARSHIPS FOR UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA STUDENTS

American Business Women's Valle Verde Chapter Special Scholarship:
Green Valley, Arizona -- Valle Verde Chapter of the American Business Women's Association is funding a special scholarship through the Stephen Bufton Memorial Educational Fund (SBMEF).

Scholarship Guidelines: Each one-time scholarship is not renewable. A check will be issued jointly to the educational institution for the recipient. Funds are limited to the tuition, books and fees.
Candidate Eligibility Requirements:Women who:
  • are citizens of the United States of America and Pima County, Arizona
  • will be college Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Graduate level in August, 2004
  • are attending or have been accepted at an accredited college or university authorized to confer degrees at least at the baccalaureate level or above
  • have achieved a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale
  • are pursuing studies in the field of: Not specified

Trustees of the Stephen Bufton Memorial Educational Fund serve as the selection board. Applications are due at ABWA Naional Headquarters by March 31, 2004. The winner will be notified in May.

The American Indian Scholarship:
The American Indian Scholarship Committe is pleased to announce the availability of scholarship funds for all students accross campus. Any full time students, including undergraduate, graduate and professional students are eligible to apply.
Undergraduate Applicants
  • Student must be registered for and maintain a minimum of 12 credit hours throughout the spring 2004 semester
  • Must have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average

Graduate/Professional Applicants
  • Student must be registered for and maintain a minimum of 9 credit hours, or have a teaching or research assistant status with 6 credit hours, throughout the spring 2004 semester
  • Must have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average

Deadline: Friday, February 6, 2004

  • Financial need and personal essay: write a one or two page statement (approximately 500 words) specifying financial need and circumstances, also outlining your personal, academic, and career goals.
  • Community Service Requirement: Scholarship recipients are required to provide community service/volunteer work for programs either on or off-campus, that serve the American Indian community. Work must be completed prior to May 30, 2004. For every $100 in aid, the scholarship recipient must provide 2.5 hours of verified voluteer work.

The Helen S. Schaefer Scholarship Available for a Woman in Science of Mathematics:
The Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Program of the Department of Women's Studies and the Southwest Institue of Research on Women (SIROW) at the University of Arizona is accepting applications for a scholarship for the 2003-2004 school year.

Qualifications: Candidates for this scholarship are required to be female students and must be:
  1. In good standing entering their sophomore, junior or senior years of study at the University of Arizona with a major in Science or Mathematics and;
  2. The student must have a grade point average of 3.5 or better.

Nominations/Support Documentation: Deadline is April 1, 2003 and each nomination must be accompanied by:
  1. an essay detailing her need and career goals;
  2. documentation of financial need (i.e. must fill out the Student Financial Aid Form through the UA Financial Aid Office.

The award can be "renewed" but only by a new application and "competition" against other applicants. The award is only to be used for tuition and fee support.Nominations are to be submitted on the enclosed form (come to Math Center for form) and must be completely filled out in ink or typed. The amount of the award may vary, depending upon the determination of the Award Committee, but will not be less than $500.
The Lorena DeSanctis McDuf Scholarship:
This award was first awarded in 1976. It honors the most unselfish, most dedicated people the University has ever known. Since its establishment, this award has come to be a very prestigious scholarship.

Qualifications: Each department may submit the name of its one outstanding junior who must be completing:
  1. Junior year at the end of May 2001 and;
  2. Senior year within the following year (May 2002), or within two semesters if leave is to be taken.

Nominations/Support documentation: Deadline is Friday, February 23, 2001, 5:00 p.m. and each nomination must be accompanied by:
  1. letter(s) of recommendation;
  2. records of achievement and activities, including involvement in community affairs; and unofficial copy of transcripts.

While the final selection is based on the results of a final review of documents by Vice President for Undergraduate Education and College Deans, the quality of the presentation made by the department on behalf of the student largely determines whether the candidate will make it to the final review by VP stage.
The Thomas E. Campbell Award:
The Thomas E. Campbell Award was established by the 17th Arizona Legislature as a memorial to the late Thomas E. Campbell, Governor of Arizona from 1919 to 1928. Each nominee will be asked by the College Committee to submit an application form and develop an original short essay concerning the importance of community service and their own contributions to the community.

Qualifications: Awards are made at the beginning of the sophomore year to those who are judged most worthy by virtue of academic record and community service.
  1. The student cannot have exceeded 36 units by the end of Spring 2001.
  2. The nominee must be an Arizona resident who will have completed at least 1 year at an accredited college within the State of Arizona.
  3. The student must have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.

Nominations/Support Documentation: Deadline is Friday, March 5, 2001, 5:00 p.m. Nominations are to be submitted on the enclosed form (come to Math Center for form). Letters of recommendation are encourages, but not mandatory. In additon, a short biographical statement regarding community service activities must be included with each nominee's essay. Come to Math Center for all the forms. A copy of unofficial transcript must also be included.

The Barbara A. Hesler Award:
Ms. Hesler was the first woman to hold the position of Assistant Dean in the Liberal Arts College. This award was established after her death in 1976 to perpetuate her ideals of student aid and assistance. Awards are made to students who are judged most worthy by virtue of academic record and community service.

Qualifications: Awards are made to students who are judged most worthy by virtue of academic record and community service. To be eligible a student must:

  1. be upper-class in standing, with cumulative grade point average of 2.700;
  2. have completed a minimum of 30 units at The University of Arizona in residency;
    and
  3. be both a U.S. citizen and an Arizona resident.

Nominations/Support Documentation: Deadline is Friday, March 5, 2001, 5:00 p.m. Nominations are to be submitted on the enclosed form (come to Math Center for form). Letters of recommendation are encourages, but not mandatory. In additon, a short biographical statement regarding community service activities must be included with each nominee's essay. The Erdean Teague Patterson Scholarship:
The Erdean Teague Patterson Scholarship was established by Mrs. Charles Eardean Patterson. Awards are made to academically outstanding upper-division students in the Colleges of Humanitites, Science, and Social & Behaviorial Sciences who have financial need.

Qualifications: Awards are made to academically outstanding upper-division students who have financial need. Students must:

  1. be a full-time junior or senior as of Fall 2001;
  2. have a 3.0 minimum GPA
  3. be an Arizona resident
  4. must show proof of financial need

Nomination/Support documentation: Deadline is Friday, March 5, 2001 and each nomination should be accompanied by:

  1. letter(s) of recommendation;
  2. unofficial copy of transcripts; and
  3. proof of financial need

Qualifications: Awards are made to upper-division students who:

  1. are Arizona residents and graduates of Cochise County High Schools;
  2. have a GPA of 3.0 or higher

Nominations/Support Documentation: Deadline is Friday, March 6, 2000. Unofficial transcripts must accompany letters of nomination.

The Robert E. Baver Memorial Scholarship:
Established in memory of Robert E. Baver, this award can be renewed annually. There are no specific grade point or year level requirements. Transcripts must be submitted with nomination. Based on financial need and pending Financial Aid approval.

The Southern Arizona Environmental Management Society Scholarship
The Southern Arizona Environmental Management Society will award two $3000 scholarships to students, either graduate or unergraduate, attending the University of Arizona.
To be eligible you must:
  • Plan on pursuing a career in the environmental arena;
  • Be an undergradute or graduate student;
  • Be a full or part-time student for the 2004-2005 academic year;
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and satisfactory progress toward a degree

On a separate page(s), please describe:
  • Experiences you have in the environmental field, such as volunteer work, internships, jobs, etc.
  • Why you are interested in pursuing a career in the environmental arena?
  • What particular environmental area interests you the most? Why?
